Alec Thomlison, VP Finance
A bit about myself
Hello fellow engineering students! My name is Alec Thomlison and I am your VP Finance for the 2017/2018 academic year. I am a U3 Mining Engineering student with an interest in the financial and investment side of the mining industry. In my first two years at McGill I was not involved in the slightest and felt disconnected from the engineering community. My first involvement came around when the Co-op Mining Engineering Undergraduate Society’s VP External had to leave on co-op and my friends urged me to apply. This became a changing point in my life. I realized that it is fun and rewarding to be a driving force in your community and be a part of the decision making process. The following year I became the U2 Representative for CMEUS. This allowed me to branch out and become further involved in the EUS by participating in EUS Council meetings, and several of its committees. As parting words I would like to say, please get involved; whether you are in first year or your last, it is never too late. It took me a while to figure it out for myself and I have not regretted it since. Find something in life that you are passionate about and enjoy the few years that you have at this wonderful school full of great people. If there is ever anything you want to talk about shoot me an email or drop by the EUS Office! Cheers!
My role as a VP Finance
As VP Finance it is my pleasure to be a part of the EUS as an executive, a member of the Board of Governors, and an OAP Manager. VP Finance is an intensive position that deals with all the financial matters of the EUS. This includes a variety of responsibilities such as: accounting, sponsorship, funds, budgeting, investment opportunities, and more. Often the work I do is not large projects (which do exist) but day-to-day activities like cheque requisitions or tending to the ever-growing email inbox. To facilitate financial operations, there are three directors under my portfolio: finance, funds, and corporate relations directors.
